Radio ‘El Sembrador’ (The Sower)

STOP PRESS

The Sower Radio took another step forward on the 10th July by officially inaugurating its ministry. To date, the Lord has blessed by providing money from BM supporters for a custom-made building, equipment (computers, cabins and recorders) and a team of workers.
The evening was an inspiration to all present, and we were pleased to announce that the radio is now broadcasting twenty four hours each day through the web page www.radioelsembrador.org

Radio ‘El Sembrador’ aims to broadcast evangelistic programmes and quality Bible teaching around the Tacna district. Ken Scott writes ...

During 2004 we were blessed by being able to buy a piece of land, adjacent to the Baptist Seminary in Tacna, designated for use as a radio station. Although I predicted that 2005 would be 'the year of the radio', all I was able to see accomplished was the formation of a legal entity with help from Blanca Valenzuela (our full-time secretary) and the construction of a two storey building designated for a radio station. All attempts at obtaining a radio license and frequency failed to meet with success. I have always believed that the radio was the Lord's will. Good Bible teaching, clear gospel preaching and wholesome music remain our vision and is much-needed in southern Peru. The Lord has blessed again by supplying more funds and since returning to Peru in February 2006, the Lord has opened doors and a license and frequency are being purchased. At the time of writing I have just returned from Lima, having interviewed two couples with a view to their working in Tacna. The Lord's timing is perfect and 2006 looks like being 'the year of the radio'.

Tacna Bookshop

There is a need for student accommodation in Tacna. Another plot beside the seminary auditorium has been purchased thanks to generous donations. Plans have been drawn up for a three story building with shop front. God willing, Jeannie Scott will set up a Christian bookshop to be located here during their next period of service. It will also include a self-contained flat for the seminary director.

Seminary at a Distance (SAD)

Charlie Anderson writes ....

The basic ethos of the SaD programme (Seminary at a Distance) is to bring the benefits of a bible college training to those who cannot easily attend one of the existing centres in Tacna or Moquegua. At the moment that means those who live in the various provinces of Puno and also Ilo.
The programme has a double emphasis. Firstly the formation of distance learning centres in strategic provincial centres where students can study on a part time basis through intensively taught courses (over 2 or 3 weekends for example) or using other distance learning materials. This part of the program is designed to suit church leaders who have work and family commitments for whom full-time study would be impossible.
The second arm of the program is the provision of a limited number of grants so that students from these outlying areas can come and study and receive practical training in Moquegua on a fulltime basis. Full time students receiving a grant, receive their food, board and tuition without charge during the 9 months of the year that the seminary has classes. They do not receive any cash in hand or help during out of term time.
It is anticipated that students will study for one, two or three years depending on their ability and the time they have available and that at the end of this time they will return to their own communities and local churches . Obviously this part of the program is targeted principally at younger people who are more flexible and do not have the same home and work responsibilities.

I believe that with God's blessing these two branches of the SaD programme will combine to make a real impact upon the maturity, stability and vision of churches across south Peru

Peruvian Workers

At present we have 16 full time workers employed by the mission. These folk depend on the prayerful generosity of missions supporters for their salary. While support for many of these people is good, there are new people in the pipeline such as Luz-Maria.

People like Quintin Anco and his family working in Conosur. While pastoring the 'Word of Life' church they are seeking to plant a new fellowship in the needy Vinani area of the city.

Another facet of this project is the students on the Lampeter Masters course through Irish Baptist College. Three students commenced the course in September 2005 when they spent one month in N. Ireland.
